Ending the Cycle of Violence: From Murder to Forgiveness
2015
Computer Files, Websites
Ending the Cycle of Violence is a groundbreaking series that provides a bold new approach to Violence Prevention, and introduces youth to the essential life skills of Understanding Consequences, Developing Empathy, Practicing Forgiveness and Making Non-Violent Choices. The series is based on the nationally recognized community-based prevention programs developed by TKF, an educational foundation started in memory of Tariq Khamisa, a 20-year-old college student who was shot and killed by 14-year-old Tony Hicks in San Diego in 1995. Using examples from Tariq and Tony's story as well as the stories of other youth and young role models, Ending The Cycle of Violence vividly communicates the contrasting realities of violence and non-violence, revenge and forgiveness. The videos also contain engaging animated sequences depicting some of the latest research on how choices can affect brain development with commentary by juvenile forensic psychologist, Dr. Jeffrey Rowe.
