The fast gun

Lee, Wayne C.2025
Large Print
When he was only a boy, it was discovered that Ben Craig had a natural aptitude for handling guns. Without training, he had drawn more rapidly and fired more accurately than many grown men. Though exciting at the time, young Ben never had a thought of using it against other people. Then the war came, and Ben's father marched off to take part in the struggle between the States. Ben wanted to go, but he was needed at home to look after his mother and younger brother, Lenny. And Silas Craig never came back. Ben took over the ranch, but a range hog wanted their land, and then trouble came - trouble that ended with the man drawing on young Ben Craig, and Ben shooting him down before he could clear leather. And that man had been regarded as dangerous. Before Ben realized it, he had a reputation as a fast gun, and after his mother died and they sold the ranch, there was nothing open to him except to live by his gun.
