Our new children's book, Little Hep B Hero is the answer to a question posed by one of Hepatitis Victoria's Vietnamese volunteers in 2016: Hepatitis B is considered `family business' in our culture due to the involvement of possible mother-to-child transmission and the requirement for life-long management of the disease, but why has it never been part of our family conversation?¿ The evidence is that hepatitis B remains a hidden disease, not only in the Vietnamese community but also in other CALD communities where prevalence is highest. It is estimated that 38% of people living with hepatitis B in Australia are unaware they have it.Little Hep B Hero is published in English, Mandarin and Vietnamese. The book is written primarily for the 7-9 year age group. It contains a glossary and discussion section for families, and is engaging for younger children. A 6-minute animation and audiobook version is also be available.
