Eric Cantona is in Istanbul, the cultural and economic capital of Turkey, where two football clubs have been competing for more than a century. The Galatasaray and the Fenerbahce. Since their creation in the ruins of the Ottoman Empire, these two clubs have reflected two different conceptions of the stambouliote identity. The Galatasaray, founded in 1905 by pupils of the eponymous French high school, stands for the Ottoman and aristocratic identity. On the other hand, the Fenerbahce, which was created in 1907 on the oriental shore of the Bosporus, represents the kemalist and republican Turkey.
