The narrator of the story grew up in a borderland, educated in an internationalist spirit by her father, a pacifist of Slavic origins. During long walks in the woods with her father, he explains to his daughter that there are no borders, that the forest is not divided by nationality like a geographical map. On her sixteenth birthday, the protagonist receives a ticket from her father to attend the Sarajevo Winter Olympics. On February 5, 1984 they leave by car for what will be a revelatory journey.
