Digital image of 626-628 High Street Thornbury, former Cable Train Engine House. Constructed in 1889 by the Clifton Hill to Northcote and Preston Tramway Company to service its line, which ran along High Street. The engine and tram shed is a single story brick building with arched windows and openings. The building has two matching pitched pediments and was the only tram engine house in Melbourne where the engine house and the car shed were contained within the one structure. The building acted as a Tram Engine house until 1940.
